Our Company History

Eighties & Nineties...

In 1970 St-Luc printer’s was founded by Mr Van Rostenberghe. The company was a local printer’s shop, focussing on government orders, simple labels and printing for private individuals.

The purchase of the company by Mr Dhondt in 1991 meant both new management and new goals. The new owner wanted to concentrate on commercial packaging printing. The increasing share in self-adhesive labels resulted in steady growth.

In 1992 Niko Dhondt joined the company, and the addition of a complete prepress department marked the beginning of the high-quality prepress printing technology revolution. As a result St-Luc could increasingly go further when it came to offering services requiring technical processing and creative design.

The new millennium

The new millennium got off to a glorious start with the decision to construct a new home for the company. The new building, in a brand-new industrial park near the E17 between Ghent and Kortrijk, became the final step towards the professional market. The building was designed by the Antwerp architects Storme-Van Ranst and is perfectly harmonised to the work flow and requirements of our operations.

2001-2008

The move to the new building in the industrial park “De Prijkels” finally happened in 2001. That same year, Fanny Dhondt reinforced the management team. The company grew at a rapid pace and increased its focus on various branches of the packaging market. In 2001 St-Luc also became active in the carton market when it acquired a fresh out-of-the-box Heidelberg CD74 press. The third Gallus rotary label press was also installed in 2001.

In 2004 the high-tech flexo press was installed, the very first Gallus RCS in the Benelux region. The result was that a new market opened up to St-Luc – flexible mono plastic and shrink wrap.

In 2005 the company received the ISO 9001:2000 certificate. This certification confirmed the company’s commitment to quality and process control.

In 2006 a second RCS flexo press was acquired, this one a ten-colour press with all the requirements for high-end finishes for labels and plastic sheeting. The first foreign takeover also occurred in 2006, with the Tourcoing cardboard company, Microbox, becoming a part of St-Luc.

Professionalization continued apace in 2008, resulting in the launch for BRC certification at the end of the year. As an active participant in the packaging market, St-Luc does after all want to be in control with respect to hygiene and food safety. St-Luc also had over 100 employees by the end of the year, divided between Belgium and France.

2009: In June, following intensive and meticulous preparation, St-Luc acquired the official BRC/IOP certificate, thereby becoming one of the first packaging printing works to meet the exacting standards of the British Retail Consortium
St-Luc is also among the fastest growing companies in the Province of East Flanders and this was acknowledged by the award of the Trends Gazelle 2009 diploma.
Rapid growth goes hand in hand with new investment, and a new unique flexo press, the Gallus EM510S, will accordingly be installed at the Nazareth establishment at the end of 2009.
