St-Luc Labels & Packaging takes over Altrif Label

Booklet labels and multipage labels added to the product range

St-Luc Labels & Packaging takes over Altrif Label

Today, the Nazareth-based packaging printer St-Luc Labels & Packaging, took over Altrif Label, a Dutch company in the same sector. Altrif, based in Roosendaal (Netherlands), is one of the few printing companies in Europe that produces multilayer labels. Through this takeover St-Luc will double in size and become one of the three leading packaging printers in the Benelux area.

This is a milestone for the Dhondt family, but also great news for all customers. St-Luc is working every day to offer you tailor made packaging solutions. By taking over Altrif St-Luc has extended its range of products into booklets and multipage labels

About Altrif Label

Altrif Label is a family-owned business that was founded in 1983 by Free Doomen. The company specialised in custom-made complex and multilayer labels. With 90 employees and an annual turnover of 18 million euros, it is one of the larger Dutch players in its niche. As there was no possibility of passing ownership on within the family, the owner went in search of a suitable candidate to take over Altrif. He found the perfect party in St-Luc Labels & Packaging, a fellow sector member that is also family-owned.

Free Doomen concludes: ‘the DNA of St-Luc Labels & Packaging corresponds perfectly with Altrif Label in terms of corporate identity. Both companies are characterised by their family-oriented approach to entrepreneurship, which is something that I have always aimed to convey to our customers and instil in our employees. Additionally, the expansion of the product portfolio will ensure a broader range of services. Taking all of these aspects into consideration, I am convinced that this partnership is destined for a bright future.’

Two complementary printers

Jerome Dhondt:This is the perfect opportunity for St-Luc to accelerate its ambitions for growth. By continually striving for innovation and quality, we have been able to consolidate our growth over the past few years, even in tough times. When the prospect of taking over Altrif came into view, there was no reason to hold back. All things considered, it is a highly complementary company: we can consolidate our technologies and specialisations to offer you a more complete and even better service.’

‘The one-stop shopping principle will now be valid for all customers of both Altrif and St- Luc. As specialist in printed packaging we want to guarantee flawless production of packaging products at the forefront of technology. You can count on our full service approach for folding cardboard, flexible foil packaging, shrink sleeves and labels – ranging from simple blank labels to custom-made multilayer and booklet labels.’

‘Apart from that nothing will change for Altrif’s customers: the plant in Roosendaal will continue to exist, the staff will remain on board and the name Altrif will be maintained. Dion Goderie will be able to safeguard continuity in the position of Operations Manager and as a co-shareholder.’

About St-Luc Labels & Packaging

St-Luc Labels & Packaging was founded approximately 25 years ago when Jerome Dhondt took over a small commercial printer in Nazareth. He quickly understood that the market for printing self-adhesive labels was a growth market and gradually dedicated himself to this enterprise. His ensuing decision to focus on packaging printing turned out to be a success. The company grew rapidly and moved into a brand-new complex at the industrial park beside the E17 motorway in Nazareth in 2001.

St-Luc’s activities were further expanded with folding cardboard packaging. In order to be able to respond quickly to the demands of the market, the cardboard packaging producer Microbox Packaging in the north of France was taken over in 2005. At the same time, the activities were split up: all folding cardboard packaging is now manufactured in Bondues (France), while labels and other printed matter are produced in Nazareth (Belgium). And now St-Luc adds a third location in Roosendaal (Netherlands).

The past few years have seen substantial investment in shrink sleeves, enabling the company to produce a 360° wrap-around for (squeeze) bottles, vials and jars. The market for digitally printed labels is also growing rapidly. This year, St-Luc is engaged in equipping a new production hall containing all possible facilities for printing, laminating and finishing digitally printed flexible packaging items, such as sachets and top foils.

After this acquisition St-Luc has 3 plants in 3 countries (Belgium, the Netherlands and France). The group will achieve a turnover of more than 40 million euros with a team of more than 200 employees.
